SYNOPSIS:

Liv (Kate Hudson) and Emma (Anne Hathaway), best friends since childhood, are always there for each other, through good times and bad. Even their respective bridal engagements happen within hours. Together they plan their weddings, each to take place at New York’s ultimate bridal destination, the Plaza Hotel. But a clerical error and subsequent clash in wedding dates pits the two brides against each other in a competition that quickly escalates into all-out war.

MOVIE REVIEW:

This reviewer here will forever be unable to comprehend the world where the woman species live. In the eyes of a typical woman, the excitement of being a bride and the joy of donning a Vera Wang gown can be far more important than any other thing in the world. And ironically, this reviewer is just months away of being a bridegroom himself.

Bride Wars ride on this common trait of a woman and tell this far-stretch tale of two best friends, Liv (Kate Hudson) and Emma (Anna Hathaway) who dreams of having their own fairy tale wedding at the prestigious Plaza Hotel in New York since young. But a clash in wedding dates causes their relationship to turn sour and both of them onto each other.

I tried my very best to switch on my 'chick flick' mode and salvage Bride Wars but this apparently has 'ludicrous to the point of unbelievable' written all over it. If you can believe a successful lawyer and a school teacher trying their best to sabotage each other’s wedding plans then perhaps you might just lap Bride Wars up.

Seriously if Liv’s attempt to make Emma’s tan orange and Emma’s get back at turning Liv’s hair blue is deem as funny, then director Gary Winick and writers Greg DePaul, Casey Wilson and June Diane Raphael deserves to be drag to the firing range. Those childish scheming, mean bitching and gripes about friendship just doesn’t really blend that well in my opinion despite Hudson and Hathaway’s enthusiastic performances.

A single night stay at the Plaza can costs in the range of thousands in the once Donald Trump owned hotel, imagine holding a wedding there with an entourage of wedding planner and assistants at your service and all these girls thought about is destroying each other’s weddings.

And when the credit rolls with an unsurprising closing, it’s a little too late and everything right here seems to ride on every woman’s fantasy about being the perfect bride. This is the first chick flick where I don’t exactly find the chicks that adoring. Excuse me, while I need to find time to try on my tux.

SPECIAL FEATURES :

The extras include an Alternate Opening which is boring and 2 Deleted Scenes. The Perfect White Dress is a 4 minutes promo reel that talks about the grandeur of Vera Wang wedding gowns.

AUDIO/VISUAL:

You might have more fun switching to the Thai language track, watching Hudson and Hathaway speaking in fluent Thai. The English audio is near pitch perfect while visually the images are crisp and free of noticeable defects.
